In the market for an FJ. Advice welcome.

Post by Redbeard »

I sold my pajero 3.5l lwb a few months ago, as soon as everything started getting locked down due the pandemic. I sold it because I wanted to upgrade for something with a bit more power, and because wife and I wouldn't need two cars with everything being locked down like it has for the past months.

After hours of discussion with the mirror, and lots of good input from other club members, I've decided the FJ Cruiser is likely the best fit for me.

I was told to look for a 2010+ model, in order to get the upgraded engine. What should I expect to pay with the current market, and would you guys wait a bit longer or just start trying to find a good deal now?

Seems like prices have dropped a fair amount, but might drop even more. It seems like most of the FJs I see on dubizzle have been up for sale for a while, even if the ad says it was just posted recently, I've been seeing that same car/ad for many weeks. Are people paying to repost their ad, or can you just reset the date so it looks like it just came on the market recently?

I would say buy a 2015+ model so you get the dual Patrol tanks. That is worth so much never have to bring any extra fuel, even if you go for a big Liwa trip. Buy a stock car and just install a proper skid plate. At some later stage you can replace suspension.

Thanks for the input Thomas. Enzo also recommended dual tank, so will definitely make that a factor.

I was looking at a 2013 which had dual tank though, but that could have been aftermarket I guess.

For now just waiting for AD border to open again, as the selection of used cars is quite small in Abu Dhabi. May take you up on the offer and contact you on whatsapp once I find a specific car.

Ok, yes you can fit an extra tank on the older models. Well good luck with the car-chase and see you soon.

Duel tank started from 2013 onwards, in 2013 some trims but from 2014 standard in all
