I'm Alan over here in AD from the UK with my wife, we decided to pick up an older 4x4 with a view to getting out in the desert at some point and trying some off-roading. We ended up buying a Jeep Cherokee/Liberty KJ, 2006 with 90000 km on it which is stock. Once I've given it a going over and sorted the rear suspension out which is clanging a bit I'll be hopefully joining an ANIT. I've read a few posts here that say the Liberty in stock form is okay for beginner off reading, is that correct?

We're both complete newbies to vehicle off reading (although I'm a dab hand at Mountain Biking), but really fancy getting out into the desert with some like minded, friendly folk and doing some sight seeing whilst enjoying the fun.

Night night all, see ya soon hopefully!

Hi Alan, I was thinking no one answered your question re stock jeep liberty - it'll do fine at beginner level and beyond, most people are surprised by what stock 4x4s can do as you learn how best to drive it! The good news for any jeep owner is that some mods are cheap and common, so as you gain experience and decide what could be improved (clearance, tyres, cooling, power, etc) you can make it better as you go along! have fun and get yourself on an ANIT trip to get started :)

And there is an Anit this Saturday with our dear Tawalbeh. This is your first trip to get to hear about safety, the club and introduction to sand driving.

Hi All,

Been reading a lot of topics here for a couple of days.. Very informative and structured.

As an Introduction, I have moved back to UAE (after spending half my life growing up here in AD 8-) ) from Doha, Qatar. Was a part of ME4x4.com group in Qatar and did quite a few trips with the Veterans there where i learnt my basic off-roading and recovery skills.

Previously Owned a 2005 Pathfinder (R50), pretty much stock with just the K&N air intake... Now...Got myself a 2014 XTerra  (Not Off-road), yes i had to compromise on the Diff-Locks but the even more stiffer off-road suspensions did not sound comfortable on the tarmac which i would be using for most of the time... Not planning on any mods at the moment, expect for good skid plates for now and a steel bumper and lights may be a little later ? Any advise, otherwise ??

And before i forget, special thanks to Grizzly for letting me ride with him tomorrow as this is gonna be my first trip in my new wheels.. Looking fwd to it 8-)

See ya all soon !!!

Cheers!!

Hi All,

Great to be part of this group. I lived in Qatar my entire life and just moved to Dubai a few months ago. Own a stock Wrangler 2011 and have done a few trips out in Qatar, though I wouldnt call myself skilled in offroading at all. Hopefully will join up for a lot more of your trips soon.

Cheers
Eddie
