GoPro Hero3+ set-up

Post by 9ball »

I know everything is a matter of preference, but just curious to know, those who have a GoPro Hero 3+, what are the prefered settings you use for when going in desert or going diving? When in the desert which back case do you use, the closed one or the open one?

GoPro Hero3+ set-up

Hi Yann.

Congrats on the new purchase.

I use the open back with back PAC as it keeps the temp down in the housing. Or it switches off from overheat at often the most inconvenient time. I use 7m but not on wide angle as you don't get the concept of depth with the wide angle in dunes. Also at 920 and 30fps the battery will last a bit longer and doesn't affect too much the playback quality and is enough GPS for some basic slo mo clips. Also avoid wifi as much as possible as it ruins battery life.

Ok thanks man. Tried it while diving over the week end. Super wide mode I don't like, way too much fish eye effect, drives me nuts. Image quality is really impressive though. Bouth a magenta filter for diving, wow what a difference it makes. Wifi app is really cool. but yes it suck the life out of those batteries, the phone's as well! Looking forward to try in while wreck diving in Cyprus this week. Of course looking forward to try it in the desert too! Have yet to try the Gopro edit software, but looks pretty simple.

I agree the quality is amazing with H3+, I have always used it with wide angle, but after your suggewstions I might try to avoid it next time and compare.

I kind of like having a reference point in the viewfield (either car nose/side, or wheel... or the car dash with my patented on-car realtime selfie :) ) also whatever I do to make nicer videos will never beat a cloudy or rainy day, or sunset/sunrise time, same as if you take desert pics with a normal camera, the colors and contrasts are amazing, on the contrary, very sunny days don't result in very nice sand captures (any suggestion on that? not on postproduction but on capture settings)

On the battery side, it works fine for me to capture best bits of a 4-5h trip, but of course avoiding wifi, setting auto turn-off at very low timing, and even turning down leds and beep souns, that heps...

You can check vids in youtube under AbuPhampi, enjoy the new gadget!
