A total of 16 people finally registered for the drive, after few cancellations. Everyone arrived on time, which was great. I had the privilege of having The Chief and Marshal Khaled Hassan in my convoy. Marshal Khaled Hassan kindly agreed to support me in my first intermediate lead. Paolo agreed to take second convoy along with Chief who supported him during the drive, but Paolo had to leave in the start due to sickness of his child passenger. Chief kindly took the lead of his convoy till the end of drive.

Ryan second lead (rest of the trip)

Khardaly (sweeper)

We started at around 2.40pm after our briefing. Moved towards the right side dunes from the deflation point, which is mainly the intermediate and Advance track. After warmup, started with a couple of large bowls in the beginning and gradually picked up the pace as drivers got comfortable. We had few breaks on the way. Also we stopped at some nice dunes to practice side sloping.

All the drivers did very well, a few second tries were there and no stuck at all. After various practice tries when every one had enough wet appetite from side slopes, we started our drive to the other side of the gravel road to hit the technical area before ending the trip.

Overall everyone did very well, and finally we headed back to our bbq point from where some members left for home, while some of us stayed back for bbq.

Thank you Marshal Khaled for your guidance and being solid second lead. Thanks Ryan and Khardaly for being solid second lead and sweeper. Thank you Chief for joining our trip and also leading the convoy and thanks to Paolo for willing to take second convoy.

What can I say. A thoroughly enjoyable but yet technical drive which involved a whole raft of different situations (including having to navigate through so many different convoys who it seems all decided to converge on Nahel that same day for the drive) requiring us to continue to dig deep and build on our learnings from previous drives. For myself I can safely say this was one of the longest and most enjoyable drives I’ve done in terms of distance and excitement. I appreciated the fact that we were always driving and not having to stop for too many breaks / breakdowns. All the drivers performed exceptionally well. I must also congratulate Umar (The Eagle) for successfully leading his first intermediate drive. I feel privileged to have been in his first ever intermediate convoy and am very much looking forward to future drives with him. Umar led us extremely well throughout the course and was very competently supported by Marshall Khalid (Pharaoh). Thank you Pharaoh for your guidance and coaching during some of the technical dunes. Loved the multiple side slope opportunities we got on one of the larger dunes. Testament to this group that we didn’t have to do any recovery or getting out of stuck situations.
